The Program

My name is Bill Self, in November of 2009, I had an oppertunity to visit the school in Mombasa, Kenya, Africa. I was able to spend a few days at the school and was able to learn a lot about the students, and teachers of this school.

I was able to spend time with the more than 56 students currently attending the special needs school. Many of the students were unable to attend on their own, and required sponsorship to be able to be able to pay the $150 yearly cost to attend school. The conditions of the students vary in nature and severity, and include Microcephally, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Speech Impairments, Epilepsy, and mild to severe brain injury.

Since my visit to the school I've been able to get together a group of my friends and myself who have been able to find enough sponsors to ensure every student is able to attend school during the 2010 school year. However with these additional students numbering nearly 30 sponsorships, additional funds are required. These funds are necessary so that the school can do things such as hire new teachers and assistants to be able to expand the program at the school as more students are able to attend.

It is now 2011, over 30 students have been able to attend school during the 2010-11 school year which is now coming to a close. With a new school year comes students whose families are unable to pay the tuition fee for their child to attend school. Attending school means that a student would be able to receive 3 meals a day, housing in a dormitory, and the necessary care that they otherwise would not receive at home. In addition to these things students are able to learn basic vocational skills such as farming, washing clothes, along with a basic education.

There are over 30 students who will need help to be able to pay the fee to attend school. The opportunity to attend school is a great benefit to these students who otherwise may not be cared for or receive an education. Please help us to continue to assist these students so they can enjoy the basic necessities of life as well as a relevant education to allow them to become functioning and beneficial members of society.
